Environment

The Sidas World Foundation aims to make a positive contribution to the environment by supporting concrete projects to preserve and restore natural ecosystems and biodiversity.

Right near the city of Rennes, La Basse Cour (The Farmyard), a stimulating third space, meets the ecological and food transition challenge by uniting local farmers with people who are curious and like to eat well to explore new practices that are good for the planet.

To address current environmental issues and encourage regional food independence, Fondation de France supports agroecology research, as well as a wider diffusion of agroecological practices.

Fondation de France has been committed to funding environmental action for 50 years – the foundation’s moment of awakening was in the 1970s during the oil crisis. Since that time, it has joined the French Coalition of Foundations for Climate; committed millions of Euros annually to climate change interventions; launched France 2i, a social and environmental impact fund; and joined the Internations Philanthropy Commitment on Climate Change.

Close to half the species of wild and domesticated bees in the world are in danger of extinction. In response, on June 20th, the last day of spring, Fondation de France introduced the BEEFUND for the protection of endangered bees and began sponsoring a new social-media influencer, called “B”, who engages the public in her campaign to save the bees through her Instagram account, @Bee_nfluencer.

Wednesday 20th May is World Bee Day, a special date created by the United Nations to raise awareness of the importance of bees and pollinators. As key link in the pollination process, bees are increasingly threatened by direct and indirect human activities. As the first influential (and committed!) bee, B. has decided to seize this opportunity to shine a spotlight on the cause.

Conserving nature, better understanding our ecosystems, developing a harmonious relationship between humans and other living things … Fondation de France and many of its sheltered foundations have been actively addressing such environmental issues since the 1970s.

On June 9 and 10, Fondation de France is organizing the Coast and Sea Days 2022 in La Rochelle. This edition is focused on the challenges that coastal towns and regions face as they confront the effects of climate change.

Tackling climate disruption needs an urgent response! There is a huge amount of work to do: taking the full measure of the problem and its consequences but above all, designing lifestyles and production patterns that are less “climate-challenging.

Excessive consumption of resources, biodiversity extinction, massive waste levels, malnutrition and obesity are some of consumption and production patterns that have generated many forms of imbalance.
