As the Fondation de France’s first report on loneliness, this study highlights one of the major problems facing our society. Having been alerted to the issue by organisations in the voluntary sector and foundations, the Fondation de France has examined loneliness using both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyse a phenomenon of vast proportions: in France, 4 million people are objectively isolated, and 2 million suffer from acute loneliness.
